OVERVIEW
This course is ideal for students with numerical backgrounds who have an interest in developing an in depth specialist knowledge and a critical understanding of the key aspects of data management and cyber security.

Students will develop and understanding of the new tools available to apply correct statistical techniques for decision making. You will develop the required skills to communicate your findings in ways that non-data scientists will understand.

The MSc Business Intelligence is powered by Tableau, the leading business intelligence software for data visualisation. As part of this course, you'll gain practical experience of how this software is used for fast, digital data analytics to enable organisations to see, understand and inform data driven decision making.

The University of Law Business School is an institutional member of Amazon Web Services Educate. This provides tutors and students of the MSc Business Intelligence and Analytics with access to the best collaboration tools, content training and AWS technology for cloud related learning. Upon graduation, you will be fully equipped with the practical skills needed for a technology career. Students also have access to the AWS Educate Job Board for seeking technology jobs and internships.

GLOBAL ROTATION
You can expand your study experience by rotating across our campus locations in the UK and Berlin. During your time at ULaw Business School, you can complete modules at alternative campus locations, returning to your ‘home’ campus to complete your final module. COURSE CONTENT & STRUCTURE
Students will study for one year, which is divided into two semesters and the summer period for the dissertation. Students will study four modules, each worth 30 credits; and another module worth 60 credits, totalling 180 credits.

The course will cover the following core modules:

  • Data Discovery Visualisation (30)
  • Data Driven Decision Making (30)
  • Predictive Analytics (30)
  • Research Methods and Research Based Output (60)  
In addition to the core modules, students will also be required to select one additional module from the following:
  • Blockchain (30)
  • Fintech (30)
  • Strategy for the Digital Economy (30)                                                                                             

Students who graduate from this degree may consider the following options if they wish to continue their studies:

  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

WHO TEACHES ON THIS COURSE?
John Kawalek is an international consultant, academic and entrepreneur. He specialises in Systems Thinking and Digital Transformation, to achieve leaps in business growth and performance improvement. With a successful career spanning over 30 years, he currently holds a number of roles including Senior Industry Adviser at European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He is Director of CrowditBuildit Ltd, a crowdfunding property development firm, as well as a Partner at The Consultancy Academy Ltd. He is also a Non-Executive Director at WeDo3DPrinting.com.


John has held senior positions in Universities in the UK and Australia, including Head of Operations Management and Decision Sciences and Director of the MBA, at a leading Russell Group University in the UK. During his academic career, he has always integrated consultancy to achieve ‘theory in practice’, and ‘practice in theory’. His international consulting profile has included undertaking numerous projects, including those with some well-known organisations, such as IBM, KPMG, PwC, Royal Mail, NHS, EU agencies. He continues to work to deliver consulting and lectures in Systems Methodologies to achieve innovation in businesses and organisations, applying new approaches and new technologies, e.g. blockchain, data analytics, smart contracts, systems of alternative finance using crowdfunding. 

John has a degree in History and Economics, an MSc in Computer Science from The University of Manchester and a PhD in Management Systems and Cybernetics. He has been a chartered member of the British Computer Society since 1989 and a chartered IT professional since 2004. He has also been a member of the Chartered Management Institute, and has published two books and over 50 academic papers.

HOW WILL YOU LEARN
ON CAMPUS STUDY
The programme is delivered in an interactive way with a real-world focus, preparing you for the dynamic business environment you will face after you graduate. Learning takes places both in and outside the classroom environment, traditional lectures and workshops are combined with a wealth of online resources to ensure that you get the most out of the programme. Face-to-face learning is supported by online resources, including the Financial Times, case studies, simulations, learning videos, reading materials, online testing and feedback. For each 30 credit module, there will be a three hour workshop.

Through our partnership with GISMA Business School, this course is available to study on campus in Berlin. Learning inside the classroom and beyond, this postgraduate degree has a real-world focus, preparing you for the dynamic business environment you will face after your graduation.

Traditional lectures and workshops are combined with a wealth of online resources to ensure that you get the most out of the programme.
