THREE YEAR FULL-TIME
Designed by practising criminologists, this three year degree programme will enable you to develop an understanding of contemporary criminology concepts and theories, looking at areas such as drugs, cybercrime, migration, mass incarceration, terrorism, and trafficking. Different perspectives of criminology will be explored, including feminism, race and cultural approaches.
Aimed at students looking to work in the criminal justice sector or associated fields, this course benefits from both a theoretical basis as well as a vocational and applied nature. This will enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of criminology and apply this to current socio-economic policies and conditions.
You will learn through a variety of group sessions, workshops, digital media and a wide range of learning resources, completing a dissertation in your final year or a research project and research methods module. In addition to your knowledge of criminology, you will gain a wide range of analytical, research, problem-solving and communication skills, which are in high demand by employers.
As we specialise in teaching, with a focus on problem solving and weighing up arguments, you’ll develop a formidable range of essential skills that can make all the difference when starting your career. The University of Law was awarded a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) in June 2019. We were found to deliver high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students and consistently exceed rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
A wide range of assessment methods will be used across all modules to ensure that all programme outcomes can be demonstrated by students. These include unseen essay type exams, Knowledge and Reasoning Exams, Mock Scenarios, Reflective & Critical Essays, Posters, Case Studies.
This variety of approach reflects more closely the practical focus of the programme, and the assessment instruments test more accurately and with greater realism the knowledge, skills and attributes required of students. It also helps to remove barriers to some students who might perform better in different types of assessments.
In each module students will have the benefit of a formative assessment aligned to the methodology of the particular summative assessment. Additional formative assessment of knowledge and understanding will take place through the regular activities within workshops.
